Fall Season

Summer is winding down, and it was one of the slowest summers, particularly June and July with its wet weather, since we started in 1998. August and the fall have picked up quite a bit and we are seeing some local people as well and from outside the province taking advantage of the better weather. We have most weekends booked but still have some openings.

Schooner Races

The Hubbards Community Waterfront Association is hosting the 50th Anniversary of the Schooner Races – being held in Hubbards Cove July 31 to August 6 this summer. Twenty to thirty schooners are expected to participate bringing two to three hundred sailors to our community and hopefully hundreds more spectators. This event has been promoted in all of the boating magazines and American Schooner Association as a vacation spot for 2011.

“The first Nova Scotia Schooner Championship was held on July 25, 1961 in Hubbards Cove, Nova Scotia. The event was an enormous success with 11 schooners taking part. During the first schooner meeting, the skippers gathered aboard the beautiful 1905 Tancook Island Schooner ADARE, where the Nova Scotia Schooner Association was formed to further interest in and preservation of Nova Scotia Schooners.” www.nsschooner.ca

Join Us for the Monthly Island Beach Clean Up on Sunday, June 26th 10am – Noon, Luke Island
St. Margaret’s Bay Stewardship Association is inviting everyone to join in on this summer’s monthly island beach cleanups.

The next one is Luke Island, one of nine publicly owned islands in the Bay. This is a great opportunity for a family outing and a free boat trip, a great chance to visit the islands of the Bay and help keep them clean for everyone to enjoy! If you have a boat you can meet us there, and if you need a ride, call or email us and we’ll arrange your boat trip to the island.  All the necessary materials will be supplied – just show up with warm clothes and sun screen and we’ll supply the rest, including light refreshments.

If you can’t make it to the island consider your own neighbourhood shoreline clean up. Rain or shine, a few hours with friends and neighbours makes a huge difference.

For pre-registration and more information please contact Tim Hoare at 222-1508 or <tim.hoare@tradewindsrealty.com>. Mark the 3rd Sunday of every month in your calendar and join your neighbours to keep our coastlines clean. (Note this month is changed to the 4th Sunday due to Father’s Day falling on the 3rd).

They play original, acoustic music with guitar, fiddle and two voices. But that’s the tip of the iceberg. As a pair, Ariana Nasr and Andy Flinn project the exuberant energy of a Caribbean septet. While Ariana sings jazzy melodies and plays reggae fiddle, Andy beat-boxes a vocalized bass line, plays guitar, and operates parts of a drum kit with his heels. There’s nothing like them.” www.tabmusic.ca

The first recording, “Under A Painted Moon”, was a few years back, before the glorious detour of motherhood, but the place she now stands as a writer and performer is one of quiet confidence and a lyrical depth born of life experience and perseverance.” www.lindabrooksmusic.com

Friday, March 25 – Dinner & Entertainment 7:30-9:30pm – Darren Arsenault – “Known for his strong banjo and guitar ability, Darren also plays a whack of other stringed instruments. His rhythmic and percussive style comes from his formative years as a drummer. His resonant voice and emotionally charged lyrics; combined with his energy on stage makes him one of the brightest shining musical entertainers in Nova Scotia.” www.darrenarsenault.com
